Southport has many things to offer when you are in town for your course; for stylish shopping look no further than the famous Lord Street home to a multitude of unique boutiques, designer names and high street brands. It's Southport's very own Victorian canopied boulevard, known around the world for its retail delights and edged with picturesque gardens and piazza. Lord Street is home to the renowned Wayfarers Arcade which boasts one of the finest Victorian glass domed roofs in the country; it is here at the portal of Wayfarers Arcade that the Master Baber's Shop and the Master Barber's Accademy are situated.
Southport plays host to a full season of of top-class events. From food to flowers and flying to fireworks, there's an entertaining mixture all year round and don't forget that Southport is by the sea, so weekend adventure into the sand dunes might be on the agenda. The month of May is when Southport hosts its annual International Jazz Festival. A plethora of talent celebrates this popular genre of music across Southport.
August sees the Woodvale Rally, back for two eventful days with classic cars, steam engines, a fairground and lots more. Later in the month the Southport Flower Show returns for its 82nd year. It's well known as one of the most inspiring, entertaining and authentic flower shows in the UK.
Come September, witness thrills in the sky at the Southport Air Show, the largest air show in the North West. As well as fast jets, helicopters and aerial display teams there's fun packed show village too.
The British Musical Fireworks Championships light up the skies in October. Experience the magic created by some of the country's top pyrotechnic teams as the most spectacular fireworks dance to synchronised music.
Jazz on a Winter's Weekend returns in February to brighten up your winter's day - where the rhythm will get you if you let it!
The world famous John Smith's Grand National comes to nearby Aintree in April. You don't have to be an experienced punter to enjoy these thrilling three days of horseracing. In May pay a visit to Southport's Food and Drink Festival as it continues to grow into one of the town's most popular events. Taste flavours from around the globe and watch live cooking demonstrations in the town centre.
If you like golf, you'll love the Amateur Golf Championship which takes place in June at both Hillside and Hesketh Golf Clubs. Also this month there's plenty of fun to be had as the Southport Fun Fest and Veterans Day Carnival Weekend return.
In November the Yuletide festivities begin with the town's Christmas Lights Switch-On and Parade. There will be free entertainment in the Town Hall Gardens and as dusk falls an illuminated parade makes its way along Lord Street.
During December the Southport Christmas Festival brings a real winter wonderland to the town. There will be live entertainment, local producers markets and lots of family fun.
