At The Master Barber’s Shop, the goal is to provide the ultimate male grooming service; we will draw upon a lifetime’s experience and also seek to further our own level of skill and knowledge for the benefit of our clients. All of which will be delivered in a friendly and comfortable environment where cleanliness and hygiene are a matter of form.
The Master Barber’s Shop has a dedicated and experienced team of barbers at your disposal, to cater to your every need. Whether you prefer the traditional or modern look we have the training, skill and flair to deliver exactly what you are seeking to achieve.
We also offer a wide range of hair care & male grooming products for your consideration and can offer personal advice to guide you towards making the right choice.
With regard to our work with wigs & hairpieces, we specialise in supplying and fitting of higher end bespoke wigs for both Ladies and Gents. These tend to be for medical purposes rather than fashion. To that end, we have established a separate consulting room within the premises for this part of the business to ensure privacy. We will be glad to fit and alter any fashion wigs that any clients need attending to.
Our USP is the heritage of many years training and dedication to the craft. We can offer a full service to our clients and bring back the forgotten arts of sculpture cutting, precision razor cutting, hot towel shaves, singeing and head & neck massage.
The Master Barber’s Shop is a link with the past, to a better time when quality mattered and was appreciated.
My experience in Hairdressing is wide and varied that covers many, many years. My journey began as an apprentice to a Gentleman’s Hairdresser in my hometown of Sheffield at the age of 15.
Whilst carrying out my training, I became qualified in Postiche and Wig making. After finishing my apprenticeship papers and making the move into Ladies Hairdressing I decided to up sticks and relocate to London where I worked in a Kensington hair salon.
Here I was offered a position as Junior Instructor in a West End Hairdressing School and later came under the tutelage of Roger Poirier; a superb practitioner of his trade and famed as the private hairdresser to the Duke of Windsor (King Edward 8th). My time in London led me into the role of a student at the Vidal Sassoon School.
At that time Sassoon was forging a new dimension in Ladies Hairdressing with his “Greek Goddess” and “5 Point Geometric” haircuts. This training led to a position in his No1 salon in Bond St, Knightsbridge.
I was then accepted as a member of the National Hairdressers Federation and made a member of the Guild of Hairdressers, Wigmakers & Perfumers and later became registered as a “Master Hairdresser” qualified in all aspects of Gentlemen’s and Ladies Hairdressing and was only the second person in Britain to gain this dual qualification.
After working for many years as a TV Cameraman, I left London to join my Father as a partner in The Master Barber’s Shop.
Whilst completing my apprenticeship in Barbering I decided to enter various industry competitions. My background in the creative arts helped my journey and gained a 2nd place and finalist for photographic collections at both National Hairdressing Federation Red Rose & Britain’s Best competitions.
This then led to having my first work published with Hairdressers Journal and Modern Barber Magazine.
Since these early years, I have featured internationally in various magazines and mentor our staff to do the same, also involving them with any stage work at trade exhibitions.
Recently becoming an educator for the BBA and Judge for the National Hairdressers Federation, British Barbers Association and Modern Barber Magazine. Recently invited to sit on an industry steering group committee for VTCT which is creating the new education T-Levels.
This journey has taken me from the UK to Paris, Barcelona & Dubai.
The liability insurance for the business is through the NHF and current certificates of cover are displayed on the premises.
